Day 14: Sacred Traditions Advent Calendar
Say no.
Hello friends,
The Sacred Art of Saying No
The holidays often come with a whirlwind of invitations, tasks, and expectations. It’s easy to feel pulled in every direction, leaving little time to pause, reflect, or simply be. Then, life throws in the unexpected, as it did recently for a family I know.
Faced with an unforeseen situation, they had to re-assess their holiday commitments. Did it interfere with plans already made? Absolutely. But what impressed me most was how quickly they chose to say no to hosting planned dinner guests. By doing so, they maintained their calm and focused their energy where it was truly needed.
Here’s a truth worth embracing: Saying "no" can be an act of self-care and love. When we say no to obligations that don’t align with our energy or values, we’re saying yes to ourselves.
Today, give yourself permission to pause—before committing to something new or even to reconsider obligations already made. Ask yourself:
Does this bring me joy?
Is this aligned with my priorities right now?
Am I saying yes out of guilt or obligation?
By choosing intentionally, you create space for what matters most. You open the door to a season not of overwhelm, but of calm and connection.
Your Invitation:
Take a moment today to reflect on your holiday commitments. Is there one thing you can lovingly release from your to-do list or calendar? Trust that the space you create will be filled with something more meaningful.
Because sometimes, the most sacred word we can say is no.
"When you say yes to others, make sure you are not saying no to yourself." – Paulo Coelho
