Feeling the Holiday Spirit by Being Intentional
Being intentional means choosing to celebrate the holidays in a way that aligns with your values, goals, and preferences.
It also means being mindful of your emotions, needs, and boundaries, and not letting external pressures or expectations affect your joy. Following are tips on how to feel the holiday spirit by being intentional.
Tip #1: Reflect on what the holidays mean to you and what you want to get out of them. Do you want to reconnect with your family and friends, express your gratitude, practice your faith, or simply relax and have fun? Whatever your answer is, make sure your actions and decisions support your desired outcome.
Having just participated in creating a holiday manifesto, I asked this question in a virtual group I belong to?
What are your dreams and wishes for the holiday season?
Here’s what they shared.
Be present to each moment 🎄
Keep holiday gifts simple, homemade, stress-free 🎁
Find joy in the moment 🤗
Spend time outside, playing in the snow ☃️
Slow down and savour the holiday ❄️
Show love in words and deeds, not just physical gifts ❤️
Here are my dreams and wishes, intentions chosen for my manifesto.

Tip #2: Practice gratitude and generosity. Holiday spirit is all about expressing joy, generosity, kindness, and gratitude during the festive season. It's a time to share and celebrate with your loved ones. While some people may associate holiday spirit with certain traditions, symbols, or activities such as decorating a tree, singing carols, or giving gifts, the essence of holiday spirit is not about material things. It's about the attitude and emotions that you bring to the holiday season.
Tip #3: Have fun and enjoy yourself. Don’t forget to have some fun and indulge in your favorite holiday activities. Whether it’s watching a movie, baking cookies, or singing carols, do something that makes you smile and laugh. You can also try something new or creative, such as writing a poem, making a collage, or learning a dance. The holidays are a great time to explore your interests and talents.
I’ve pulled a document from my Archives. It’s full of fun and enjoyment - a few handmade gifts, a Christmas playlist, holiday games and more.
Tip #4: Plan ahead and prioritize your activities. Don’t try to do everything or please everyone. Focus on the things that matter most to you and that bring you happiness. If you have limited time, energy, or resources, be realistic and flexible about what you can accomplish. You can also delegate or outsource some tasks to reduce your stress.
Tip #5: Set healthy boundaries and communicate them clearly. Learn to say no to things that don’t serve you or that conflict with your values. Don’t let guilt, fear, or obligation force you to do something you don’t want to do. Respect your own limits and respect the limits of others. If you encounter any conflict or disagreement, try to resolve it peacefully and respectfully. Why not share this post with friends or family members. I think it might even help to set your boundaries and communicate them clearly.
I hope these tips help you to feel the holiday spirit by being intentional. Remember that the holidays are what you make of them, and you have the power to create your own happiness.
