Hygge Like A Witch!
A cozy cauldron of creativity, connection, and a dash of Halloween magic!
Hello friends,
Click here and I’ll read this newsletter to you!
Years ago, I created and hosted a series of gatherings called Hello Hygge: Experience Your Inner Cozy.
I think most of us are familiar with the word hygge and the sense of calm it brings — but just in case, here’s a little reminder.
Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) is the Danish art of happiness. It’s about slowing down, getting cozy, and taking pleasure in the simple things in life that bring you joy. Hygge is an atmosphere — an experience — a way of living more simply and slowly. It invites us to get out, to get together, and to truly enjoy the moment.
It’s a cup of spiced mulled cider on an autumn evening.
It’s a cozy blanket to take off the chill.
It’s conversation by candlelight, togetherness with friends, and closeness to nature.
It’s using the magic of self-care to cast a special spell.
Just before Halloween, 2019, I hosted an in-person gathering called Hygge Like a Witch — a cozy, candlelit evening filled with laughter, creativity, and connection. We stirred cauldrons of activated charcoal sugar scrub, sipped warm cider, and filled the night with handmade magic.

I collaborated with the talented duo behind Two Drunk Witches, who create the most wonderful self-care recipes featuring activated charcoal — perfect for your own cozy, witchy night in.

You’ll find their full recipe for the sugar scrub we stirred up that evening, along with a few other creative ways to weave activated charcoal into your self-care rituals in the handout below.
To accompany the recipes, I’ve included a favorite photo of a dear friend and her daughter who joined in the spirit of Hygge Like a Witch with a fun photo shoot of their own — mixing up their “cauldron of self-care.” Though it wasn’t taken that same evening, it perfectly captures the warmth, laughter, and creative energy that hygge inspires.
If you’d like to bring a little of that same magic into your own space, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite suggestions in a handout called Ideas to Hygge Like a Witch — simple ways to weave together coziness, creativity, and connection this season. Whether you choose one or try them all, each idea is meant to help you pause, play, and infuse your days with a touch of everyday enchantment.
As the evenings grow darker and Halloween approaches once more, I’ve been revisiting those ideas — and reimagining them for home or online gatherings. Whether you’re crafting solo, hosting friends around your kitchen table, or connecting virtually, there’s always room for a little hygge magic — and a reminder that even in the darkest nights, we can create our own light.

Now I want to gather my daughters and have a party like this! It sounds like a magical evening!
These are brilliant! What a fun way to enjoy community and togetherness with a seasonal spin!
