I have something important to share! I’ve self-diagnosed and am suffering from MMMIM (my movement motivation is missing). The good news - it’s a curable disease.
I’ve had this disease for many years, yet it’s presence eluded me, until a recent visit to Vancouver Island where I found the cure.
One day my husband and I headed to a beautiful little lake for a hike, not because I love to hike, because I’d heard from a friend that she had released a slow-stitch panel into the wild. I wanted so badly to find it. It was the perfect piece for me - full of texture and just my colors.
Just like a well orchestrated scavenger hunt, we had a clue. A photo led the way, showing the piece carefully laid down with love in the crook of two trees.
My husband was convinced he knew what side of the lake it resided on by the type of tree in the photo. So off we went. Up hills, over exposed tree roots and past other hikers, secretly hoping they hadn’t found it first.
It was an exhausting hike. I’d done it before and had forgotten what a steep climb it was. On we trudged. I was determined. Alas, there was the crooked dead fall branch at the base of the tree - just like in the photo. And there was my beautiful prize.
Little did my friend know that the courage and bravery it took for her to put her art into the world that day, would be received with immense happiness experienced by me. It truly was healing magic.
This hike, although physically tough at times, was pure joy. You see, creativity is my superpower and what I discovered on that unsuspecting afternoon, was that by mixing creativity (finding that little piece of stitchery) with movement, it became so much fun.
With serendipity in action, a lightbulb went on and I had an idea.
If I mix creativity with movement, I’m more apt to do it. It was like I found my motivation.
Fast forward a few weeks, a wellness group I belong to, was introduced to a Holiday 100 Challenge. We were invited to set an intention, develop action steps and practice them for the next 100 days.
Making Movement Joyful (my Holiday 100 Challenge) was born.
My intention is to practice three activities that will inspire me to keep my movement motivation creative & fun.
The first activity is to be open to creative ways to inspire me.
Here’s where you may be able to help. I’d love for you to inspire me with your ideas in the comments below.
As my gift to you, in early 2024, I’ll share my publication with 100 creatives way to make movement joyful.
Warmly,
Kathy xo
