Hello friends,
September is my favorite season. Hello cozy vibes!
It’s a season of gathering. The leaves drift into golden piles, gardens offer their final gifts, farmers bring in the harvest, and schools and communities draw us back into rhythm. Autumn calls us inward—to notice what we’ve collected and to carry it with intention into the coming season.
As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, nature invites us to slow down, pause, and reflect. Just as the trees both release and gather, we too can notice what we’re holding: memories, connections, colors, creativity, rituals, words, and moments that nourish us.
Some time ago, I took a course where we were asked to create a “gathering list”—a simple yet powerful practice of noticing and collecting what matters most. Over the years, I’ve returned to mine often, and it always reminds me of the beauty, joy, and meaning woven through my life. I’d love to invite you to create your own list—think of it as a gentle inventory of what fills your heart: moments, memories, objects, colors, places, or connections. To spark ideas, I’m sharing my own list—not as a template, but as a glimpse of how personal and unique this practice can be. My hope is that it encourages you to collect and carry forward the things that truly nourish you.
The Gift of Gathering
I gather soul moments that bring me joy and calm—sunrises, sunsets, birds chirping, heron flying by.
I gather by the seaside—the sound and motion of the waves, sun-kissed beach glass, expressing myself in the sand.
I gather women together—creating sisterhood and community.
I gather my favorite colors—purple and teal.
I gather and am the keeper of all my family history: my grandmother’s hats, letters from my mother to her father and mother.
I gather experiences from which I learn and share with others.
I gather many different collections—angels, shells, heart-shaped rocks—a powerful practice with intent to connect to my longings and that which I wish to embody: spirituality, love, creation.
I gather my creativity—so many beautiful things handmade by me: quilts, cross-stitched and needle-felted pictures, to name a few.
I gather memories—of my beautiful granddaughters, 7,600 nights of my husband saying “good-night my sweet”, my children as they take flight.
I gather words—hello, joy, grateful heart, pause, permission granted, love, magic.
I gather details.
I gather everything party—straws, pretty little bottles, buntings.
I gather ideas and thoughts.
I gather inspirational quotes.
I gather intentions.
I gather all these gifts. And as I long to gather something new, I place it in a gift bag until it becomes true.

✨ Why a Gathering List Matters
It tells your story. What you gather—whether it’s recipes, quotes, colors, or moments—becomes a reflection of who you are and what you value in this season of life.
It slows you down. Pausing to notice and name what you’re drawn to turns ordinary moments into touchstones of meaning.
It sparks creativity. Sometimes a list of simple things (like autumn leaves, old letters, or favorite teas) can become the seed of a creative project or ritual.
It reveals patterns. Over time, you’ll notice themes in what you collect. These patterns can highlight passions or callings you might not have recognized.
It builds connection. Sharing your gathering list can be a doorway into deeper conversations with others.
As we journey through September together, I’ll be working on a Gathering Notebook—a place to tuck in words, images, rituals, and moments that I don’t want to lose track of. I’ll share pieces of it with you as I create, so you can see how gathering can take shape in simple, meaningful ways.
If you’d like to follow along more closely, I also share inspiration and creative practices over on my YouTube channel—another space where we can gather around ideas and creativity. You may be interested in this Welcome Video I added today.
After all, gathering is at the heart of living with intention. It’s how we carry beauty forward. We’re reminded…
“Take time to gather the quiet, the stillness, the scattered fragments of your day, until you are home within yourself.” ~ John O’Donohue
Happy Gathering!

I watched the little youtube video! Your voice is so grounding, so consistent. I imagined you as a narrator of a nature show. I'll have to listen to you read your newsletters too! I love the personal touch of your voice. It communicates a whole other depth to the space you're creating here.
Thank you for sharing all this .... your ideas are excellent Kathy. 🩵
