October Potluck: A Feast for Your Creativity
Not food, just fun—where imagination replaces recipes and creativity fills the table.
Hello friends,
October is here, and with it comes an invitation to gather… not around food this time, but around little treasures, playful projects, and seasonal inspiration. This isn’t your average potluck—it’s one for the imagination, filled with cozy textures, creative touches, and the gentle beauty of autumn.
Like any good potluck, take what inspires you, leave what doesn’t, and most of all, enjoy this season of color, coziness, and opportunities for creativity. Here’s what’s on the table.
Foraged Treasures and Woodland Whimsy
I love to forage whenever the chance arises, and it’s the perfect time of year. This season’s colorful leaves are ready and waiting for you to turn them into unique seasonal decor.
On a recent trip to Vancouver Island, I carefully pressed some foraged maple leaves under the resort room area rug (a girl’s got to get creative!). These are BIG leaves, and I wanted them to arrive home intact. Once pressed, I packed them carefully in my suitcase, knowing they might either end up as a million little pieces or arrive whole, ready to be transformed into beautiful autumn decor. I was pleasantly surprised when they made it through the airplane ride home in perfect shape! I could hardly wait to make a fireplace mantel banner. It was so easy to string up my prize leaves and tape to the mantel. When sunlight catches the leaves, they come alive with color!
Many of us will celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend! Here are a few ideas for creating charming place cards for your holiday table. Your guests will delight in the thoughtful, seasonal touches—small details that make the day feel warm and extra special.

Take a walk and gather a few colorful leaves. Tie the leaves and a name tag with twine and simply set on a folded napkin at each place setting.
Wrap an apple in a strip of parchment paper, secure with twine and add a leaf name tag. This idea is two-fold: a unique place card and a party favor for guests to take home.
I’ll never forget the day I stumbled upon an oak tree, the ground beneath it, covered by acorn heads nearly an inch in diameter. I couldn’t resist slipping several into my pockets and bringing them home to transform into needle-felted acorns. Luckily, I had some needle felting wool on hand. I shaped the wool into little acorn forms, needle-felted them together, and glued them into each acorn head. This autumn, they sit on my bathroom vanity, adding a simple, seasonal touch that makes me smile.
It’s Pumpkin Season!
What’s just as delightful as sweater weather? Pumpkin season!
On that same recent trip to Vancouver Island I mentioned earlier, we visited a pumpkin patch filled with so many colors and varieties. Yes, it’s pumpkin season, and I’ve gathered a few creative ideas for you to try at home.
As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, may these simple ideas remind you how much beauty can be found in slowing down, gathering what’s near, and creating with heart.
